It is to say that this internship is very different from the others in a positive way. I was working in a very small team in and around Zürich. The reason I applied for the internship was because I wanted to get in the VC/PE industry and I wanted to gain hands on experience, what I totally found with this internship. Also I don’t like rigid big banks where the tasks are usually very narrow ranged. The tasks you can do here are very broad and will be adapted to your skills, performance and your wishes which was great. During my first days, I was sent to the venture.ch event and pitched a new business idea. There are a lot of different projects running at the same time in different industries. They can range from business development to project valuation or conducting a job interview. For me, I did everything from elaborating a business plan, creating investor presentations, evaluating project valuations, following the manager to business trips or congresses (Germany, Luxembourg & China!) or helping with the recruitment process. Also, the management (which also kind of mentoring the interns) will take time to listen to you. New ideas and inputs are highly appreciated and therefore stimulated. The stages of the projects are mainly seed or grow stage, but not limited to. Hermes Capital takes different roles, like investor mediation, connecting businesses, or implementing own business ideas.
Another big plus is the independence and flexibility you can enjoy. You can determine when and what you are working on. Also, I often used the possibility of home office if we were not traveling around in Zürich or abroad.
If you want to learn not only on a technical/career level but also on a personal level, apply and get as much as possible out of this internship!
