The Amatheon Foundation’s aim is to improve livelihoods in rural African communities by connecting them to larger markets. With our programmes, which we implement with the local NGO Turn IG, we target increased productivity and profitability of rural communities’ enterprises.
The Emerging Farmer Project supports farmers in various ways to increase their income. In order to track the impact of this project, Turn IG, in cooperation with the Amatheon Foundation, developed an app with which valuable data was already collected from the community. This data will give the Amatheon Foundation as well as Turn IG a profound overview of the farmers’ current position and will provide the basis for the evaluation of the project in the years to come.
However, apart from increasing income, communities face other barriers to development too. A healthy and educated person generally has a much easier pathway into a successful life. Stunting, being a result of malnutrition during early childhood, seriously impacts the development of body and brain and has therefore a large impact on the economy. We are in the midst of setting up a programme to educate communities about the consequences of malnutrition and stunting in particular. We see this as a logical and necessary long term programme.Primary duties and responsibilities
